New Year's Resolutions 2009:
http://listography.com/KateKintail/to_do/new_years_resolutions_2009

Personal Goals:
  1. Start working out again regularly and lose weight (Start weight: 158)
    Accomplished: No
I am at 154 right now, but I haven't been working out and I certainly didn't lose the 30-35 I want to lose.

  2. Grow hair out for Locks of Love
    Accomplished: In progress
I nearly have 10 inches. I hope to chop it off in the next month or two

  3. Safety permitting, park at the end of the parking lot each time I go anywhere to walk further
    Accomplished: Yes
I would say about 75% of the time I parked far away from the store/building. Sometimes it was dark and not safe to park far away. Sometimes there weren't any other spots available and I didn't have a choice about where to park. But for the most part, I kept this up all year.

  4. Start a YouTube channel and upload some videos
    Accomplished: Yes
I created a channel and uploaded some videos. Nothing special (certainly not a vlog) but it's there.

  5. Buy a new car
    Accomplished: Yes
I bought Love, my Honda Element. I regret not spending more time on this, but Love is serving me well and I hope to have her for a long time.

  6. Start working on a quilt consisting of shirts & cloth from my childhood
    Accomplished: No
I didn't even touch this this year

Writing Goals:
  1. Finish all fic requests from 2007 & 2008
    Accomplished: No
I did finish a few, and I made good progress on a few others. But there are still stories outstanding

  2. Bring the archive up to date
    Accomplished: Yes
I worked throughout the year and, in December, I caught up. Everything is archived and up to date!

  3. Finish a first draft of a novel
Accomplished: Came close, but not cigar
I tried really hard during November to finish my NaNoWriMo novel but came up short once again. I'm only a few chapters away from finishing, so I feel good about that but sad I couldn't finish.

  4. Update the WR website
    Accomplished: Yes
I updated the site last winter.

Book/BookCrossing Goals:
  1. Keep track of pages read this year. Goal: 15000 pages
    Accomplished: No
I came up short on my goal by a lot. I only read 7,439 pages (and earread 13,398 pages on audio)

  2. Do not click on/read any "worst books read" threads on the BC forums
    Accomplished: Yes
Actually, I managed to go the whole year without reading any of these and getting frustrated.

  3. Finish the Art in the Pages release project to your satisfaction
    Accomplished: In Progress
I am very close with this one. I only have a few more to go!

  4. Read all manga & graphic novels in my possession (Start number: 39/143)
    Accomplished: No
The number read is now 49/152. So I read 10 off my list... but added 9 new ones. LOL And I'm kind of cheating because there are another 10-15 I haven't unpacked yet from the last book sale that aren't on the list (nor are the BookCrossing ones included on this count. So... I'm drowning.)

  5. Read what you want and don't waste time on ones you don't- be honest with yourself and get Mt. TBR down!
    Accomplished: Yes
I did an excellent job of reading books I've been wanting to read for a while. There were a few books I read for a book club, but generally I am very happy with my reads this year

Fannish Goals:
  1. Memorize all the Doctor Whos in order
    Accomplished: No
Honestly, I didn't even try. But I'm putting this on next year's list.

  2. Build planned LEGO creations & show them at Brick Fair
    Accomplished: Yes
I had a wonderful time there, and ended up creating 4 things!

  3. Finish knitting scarf for Remus
    Accomplished: No
I didn't even open the box. Eeep! Sorry, Remus!

So... I actually thought I did badly this year, but I think my count of the above is 8 Yes, 8 No, and 2 still in progress. That's really not bad at all!

Every year I post my resolutions and evaluate how I did on last year's. This year... eh... not as good as last.

New Year's Resolutions 2008
http://listography.com/action/list?uid=6257205037&lid=2678184021

  1. Start working out again regularly and lose weight (start weight: 160)
    Accomplished: Nope
I neither lost nor gained, really. I'm at 158 right now.

  2. Finish 30 things on my 101 goals list
    Accomplished: No
I finished 6 things. I made progress on others, but my 101 list doesn't look good now. I chose the number 30 so that I would get a bunch done last year and about the same number this year in order to have 'em all done.

  3. Finish a draft of a possibly publishable novel
    Accomplished: No
Sounding like a broken record here. I really, really did try to get my NaNoWriMo 07 novel finished. And I wanted to finish my NaNoWriMo 08 novel, but as of Jan 1, 2009 I have no finished novel-length piece

  4. Grow hair out for Locks of Love
    Accomplished: In progress
It's at about 8 inches now; needs to be 10

  5. Clean out wardrobe/closet- be brutal!
    Accomplished: Yes
I cleared out about 2.5 boxes of clothes, which is good, but there's still a lot more weeding out I should probably do

  6. Watch every movie I've purchased but haven't yet watched on DVD
    Accomplished: No
I watched 14 of my DVDs, leaving about 100 unwatched ones still. Yikes!

  7. Volunteer at the library
    Accomplished: Yes!
I did this one! I volunteer 2 hours minimum a week at each of two different libraries (i.e. 4 hours a week, though usually it comes out to 5). I've done: shelf reading, picklist, missing list, in-transit list, reading lists, purged sections, checked incoming children's book donations against library catalog, and handled the morning book drop. I love it and am so glad I got involved with the libraries!

  8. Sign up for a Fidelity account at work and have money put into it each paycheck
    Accomplished: Uh-oh. No
I requested the info from work but never actually signed up :-( Now with the state of things...

  9. Get caught up on the SF archive
    Accomplished: No
I DID, however, get 61 stories coded and added to the archive, which is a huge amount. There are still about 40 more to code, but I made a huge dent in stories posted from 2008 and 2007. All I have left is May through October of 2007 and the few fics posted within December 2008. Not too bad.

  10. Get to 1000 badges at Zone Games
    Accomplished: Yes!
I made it to the 1000 badges club and I'm now at 1102. Awesome! :-)

  11. Make a swag bag for cons
Accomplished: No but worked on it
I bought a bag, and more than 12 patches. Then I bought another bag I preferred. Then I bought another one I liked even better. So good thing I didn't get to sewing earlier. But I still hope to work on this goal and get it done in 2009

  12. Pay off entire student loan
    Accomplished: YES!
This was my hugest goal for 2008 and I'm thrilled to have accomplished it. No more student loan! That's amazing to me and something I worked hard for.

  13. Write fics in 3 fandoms I've never tried writing in before
    Accomplished: Yes!
I wrote in a few different fandoms I've never played in before. The first 3 from 2008 are: Firefly, Torchwood, and The Breakfast Club.

  14. Set a fandom expenses $ limit and stick to it
    Accomplished: Yes!
I set a limit and kept track all year, for the most part. I put in everything from food purchased at meetups and used books purchased for a quarter to expensive hotel rooms. And I came in about $330 below my limit. Yay!

So that's...
6 accomplished
8 not accomplished but made good progress on every single one of them and hope to finish some of them off this year
So even though I accomplished fewer than half, I still feel good about them because some of the ones I did accomplish were huge for me.

Every year I post my resolutions and evaluate how I did on last year's. This time, I didn't do too badly!

New Year's Resolutions 2007
http://listography.com/action/list?uid=6257205037&lid=4002602976

1. Start working out again regularly and lose weight (start weight: 144)
Accomplished: Nope
Actually, I gained weight. Not good, but definitely expected since I stopped working out.

2. Make more progress on my 'fandoms I want to get into' list (Farscape, Firefly, Band of Brothers, Starsky & Hutch...) and my 'shows to catch up on' list (Stargates, The Dead Zone, The 4400, The L Word...)
Accomplished: Yes, I'd say so
I did a lot of watching this year. In addition to the normal shows I watch, I made a point to set time aside to catch up on and start new shows:
Blood Ties- most of Season 1 (or Seasons 1 & most of 2, depending on your definition) (watched online and DVRed)
Chuck- all but one episode (watched on DVR upstairs)
Dante's Cove Seasons 1 & 2 (watched on DVD)
Day Break- finished (watched online)
Farscape Season 1 (watched on DVD)
Firefly & Serenity- finished (watched on DVD)
Prison Break Season 2 (watched on DVD)
The 4400 Seasons 2, 3, 4 (watched on DVD and DVRed)
The OC- finished (watched on TV and video taped)
The Dead Zone Seasons 4, 5 & 6 (watched on DVD and DVRed)
The L Word Seasons 3 & 4 (watched on DVD and OnDemand)
Torchwood Season 1 (watched on TV and DVRed)

3. Finish a draft of a possibly publishable novel
Accomplished: No, but still working
Even with my winning NaNoWriMo, no novel is finished, even in draft form. Not even close. So now I have two possible ones in the work and I'm not giving up on either yet.

4. Take a basic car maintenance class/workshop
Accomplished: No
Couldn't find one to take. I called my insurance company and they didn't know of any. I checked the parks & recreaction catalog- nothing. I found a class that fit the description in the adult continuing education catalog, but it was a 6 session class and MUCH more intense than I wanted. Definitely not just basic stuff. There's a book I think my mom has... I might go the self-taught method.

5. Read/finish 50 books
Accomplished: Yes, with flying clors!
I read 128 books in 2007 (including bound graphic novels and audio books). Here's the lovely list. Considering I only managed 37 the years before, I'd say that's a great improvement.

6. Sign up for a dating service and/or go on at least one date (AND/OR get an apartment)
Accomplished: Yes *blush*
I went out on a few dates :-)

7. Finish my website portfolio
Accomplished: Nope
To be honest, I didn't even work on it. I think I opened it up once and looked at it, then got scared and overwhelmed and ran away.

8. Open an ING savings account and meet (undisclosed) savings goals for the year
Accomplished: Yes
I opened an account and set up automatic withdrawals twice a month, and I put money into another savings account once a month. If you add the two savings accounts up, I met my goal and exceeded it by about $120 thanks to interest. The great thing is, I put as much toward my student loan as I put in my ING account so I'm in a really good position to head into 2008.

9. Send a care package to a soldier every month
Accomplished: Yes
I sent out one every month, plus 3 other small packages of books (so 15 in total). I had a lot of fun picking out a name every month and buying things from their wishlists. I'm getting pretty good at filling out the white customs forms now and have learned loads of things like never mix food with toiletries and send lots of books separately through media mail to save on postage. I also got a few nice notes back from the soldiers, which really warmed my heart, since that was so unexpected.

10. Grow hair out for Locks of Love
Accomplished: Still in progress
I haven't cut my hair since last February. It needs a trim right now, but I still plan to grow it out until the portion I will cut off reaches 10+ inches

11. Tell people more often how much I love/appreciate them
Accomplished: I think so, actually
I think I've gotten better at it this year.

12. Give more feedback (goal for the year: 100)
Accomplished: Yes
I kept a list all year, and currently I'm at 152 pieces of feedback given. Some was short, some was long, but keeping a list ensured that I kept up with my goal of leaving a lot. Not sure what I'm going to do with the list. Originally, I'd planned to put it on my rec journal. But the pieces I've left feedback for are from all over, fetish communities, e-mail, and real life included. So it's probably just going to sit on my computer and look pretty

13. Get a PO Box and do Postcrossing
Accomplished: Yes
I bought a PO Box for a year, which I've enjoyed having. And I've sent 20 postcards (and received 20, as well). It's been lots of fun and I'm glad I made myself do it.

So that's... 8 accomplished, 2 still in progress, and 3 utter failures. Not a bad year! I'm pretty happy with that :-) *pats self on back*

All righty! Here's my list of resolutions for this year!

New Years Resolutions 2007:
http://listography.com/action/list?lid=4002602976

Yeah. I was even brave enough to post my current weight *ducks and covers* It's not too bad, but I want to get down to 130 this year (and stay there). Anyway, we'll see how I do on all of these at this time next year! :-) Here's hoping!
tarotgal: (Hufflepuff)
The year isn't quite over yet, but I'm fairly confident this is as far on my resolutions as I will be getting.

New Year's Resolutions 2006:
http://listography.com/action/list?lid=6691608002

1. Lose more weight
Accomplished: not really
Well, I did work out a bit this year, and did lose a few pounds. But I stopped mid-year or so when I started working 4 jobs. The important thing is I haven't really gained any weight this year. So that's not too bad.

2. Make more progress on my 'fandoms I want to get into' list (Horatio Hornblower, Farscape, Firefly, Band of Brothers, Starsky & Hutch...)
Accomplished: yes
I made it through the whole Hornblower series and watched a half dozen Farscape episodes. Still have miles to go before I sleep.

3. Finish a draft of a possibly publishable novel
Accomplished: no
Not even close. Except that I think I have a good novel-sized bunny to work on in this pre-series Strokes Jamie fic 'Under Lock and Key'. So I started a possibly publishable novel. Definitely didn't finish anything.
However, I did try getting a short story published. And I did write a short article for BC that did get published. I also bravely went out and joined a local monthly writing group that has been inspirational and motivational. So not an entirely uneventful writing year. Slow and steady...

4. Release more than 25 books into the wild for Bookcrossing
Accomplished: yes
Ohhh yeah. Thanks to participating in a whole bunch of challenges, I released about 300 this year! And I registered more than 500. I've participated in RABCKs, direct releases, controlled releases, Sunset Missions, Bookboxes, Bookrings, and Bookrays, as well as getting more than 20 wild release catches.

5. Try to do at least one thing on my "things to do before I die" list (or at least write a bigger/better list- it's only got 7 things on it right now- how pathetic!)
Accomplished: yes
My list now has 26 things on it. And I actually did one thing on my list this year: I went to a Billy Joel concert. Horrid seats, but that didn't matter because the concert was absolutely fantastic. I laughed and cried and loved every moment of it. Definitely glad I did it.

6. Write letters to my two high school friends I've lost touch with
Accomplished: yes
I sent them Christmas cards with short notes written inside, as well as my family's newsletter. I don't expect anything to come of it, but it makes me feel better to have reached out and finally done this

7. Teach an adult education course or become a part-time tutor
Accomplished: no (but that's okay)
I did place a few calls in January to adult education places nearby about teaching but never heard back. I also researched some local tutoring companies I could apply to. But I got a full-time job and that sort of killed my free time and I prefer to do the work I'm doing now. Though maybe in the future...

8. Practice reading people better and get better at giving them what they want from me
Accomplished: maybe
I think I've been better at it, certainly. But still not to the level I would like. People are such a mystery to me still, in a lot of ways. LOL

9. Tell people more often how much I love/appreciate them
Accomplished: maybe
I've been better at this, too. But need to keep at it.

10. Finish all my Strokes works-in-progress (prior to New Year's storyline)
Accomplished: not really, but I'm satisfied with my progress
I got a TON of stories prior to that storyline written, including a whole Beginnings series I'm incredibly happy with my progress on it, due entirely to NaNoWriMo. So nearly all of my prior 2006 stories have either been begun or have been finished. Plus, I'm thrilled with the new characters that have jumped out at me and new storylines taking place after the New Year's fic.

11. Give more feedback (and do so promptly)
Accomplished: maybe
I've been a little better at times during the year, and worse at other times. For all that I read, I really should write more feedback, both in the SF world and in all the communities where I'm active or lurk.

All in all, I think I did a good job. I give myself a lot of resolutions so that I feel better at the end of the year just to see that I've accomplished some of them. Several weren't very easy to measure, so it's hard to evaluate them. I think I'll revise my 2007 resolutions to make it easier at the end of the year. Anyway, I'm happy with this year. Incredibly good BC progress, obviously. NaNoWriMo was such a lot of fun, and my fun writing in general has been a joy from the May Challenge at pervy_werewolf to giftfics I finally finished to the ABC's of H/C to Strokes really growing. The move to the new house went well, even though I'm still not quite done unpacking almost a year later. Sad to see my childhood house go, but it's a milestone to note. And then, of course, working up the courage to apply and interview... and then landing my dream job. And getting a good performance review and a slight raise that just kicked in this month. I raised more money than ever at the AIDS Walk (thank you all again). And I haven't had a mental breakdown in months. So it's been a good year for me. Obviously, not without it's bad points. But, in general, a good year and I'm happy with my progress with my resolutions which was what the post was all about in the first place :-)
tarotgal: (Thinking Angel)
This year's resolutions look somewhat similar to last year's but with some additions.

  • Lose more weight
  • Make more progress on my 'fandoms I want to get into' list (Horatio Hornblower, Farscape, Firefly, Band of Brothers, Starsky & Hutch...)
  • Finish a draft of a possibly publishable novel
  • Release more than 25 books into the wild for Bookcrossing
  • Try to do at least one thing on my "things to do before I die" list (or at least write a bigger/better list- it's only got 7 things on it right now- how pathetic!)
  • Write letters to my two high school friends I've lost touch with
  • Teach an adult education course or become a part-time tutor
  • Practice reading people better and get better at giving them what they want from me
  • Tell people more often how much I love/appreciate them
  • Finish all my Strokes works-in-progress (prior to New Year's storyline)
  • Give more feedback (and do so promptly)

Recap of some of last year's progress:
I lost a net total of 10 pounds since last Feb... I lost a ton more and then I slacked around May and gained them back since... so I need to start working out again, seriously. I made NO effort to write a novel... okay, I've got a good idea and half a page, but that's it. As far as getting into new fandoms: I did manage to finish Angel and see all of Buffy. I taped Firefly off Sci-Fi to watch as soon as I have time and I've taped Stargate: Atlantis (but missed a few episodes so I'm going to rent S1 on DVD). I started watching Horatio Hornblower (through Volume IV now) and I've seen four episodes of Farscape so far but I saw the very first episode this past Sat so I'm officially starting that now as well. I definitely released more BookCrossing books this past year (20+ in 2005 and only 3 all together in previous years) and I participated in the Christmas Ornament Exchange so that was good. I still don't know what to do with my life but getting a sort of new job in addition to my current job has been good so far.

Resolutions

tarotgal: (Default)
Hrm. I've never really been a resolution-type person but it might be fun to look back in a year and see if I actually managed any of these with any quality and/or efficiency.

  1. Finish the evil thesis edits. Preferably by the end of this week.
  2. Lose more weight.
  3. Make significant progress on my 'fandoms I want to get into' list (Which is currently Buffy, Stargate: Atlantis, Farscape, Horatio Hornblower, Starsky & Hutch...)
  4. Finish at least one draft of a possibly publishable novel
  5. Release more Bookcrossing books into the wild
  6. Figure out what the hell I want to do with my life

Let's see. I think that's it. Though I reserve the right to add to this list in the next few days :-)
