I spent a long time today debating breaking into romance novel writing. Obviously I've a long way to go before I'm publishable(as far as style and practice and all that), but I'm considering buying a how-to-write-and-publish-romance-novels book. From the online help, it looks like I'm screwed already given the volume that editors get nowadays. LOL I think I'm going to go try and hit the library and get some out for this weekend. I've only ever read one in my whole life (apart from the Outlander series which I don't count even though it's in the Romance section in most bookstores). I've been trying to think of ideas but I don't really know what's out there and everything that I think of I bet has been done to death.
Today:
I don't have the energy to reply about the Cliff's Notes thing, but I'm still against them. LOL I understand justifying their uses in certain circumstances, I do. I'm mostly just pissed at those who use them instead of reading the books. If the assignment is to read the book, I'd personally be happy to see people fail right and left because they didn't read the book. But I do understand people don't make notes and things to themselves while reading books for class like I do and need them to look stuff up. I just don't like the things. Okay, really, I'm shutting up about this tonight. I have not the energy.
I watched Love Actually with the commentary. LMAO! I must admit I was blushing furiously when they were talking about photic sneezing *blushes* I'm glad they couldn't see me :-) But they were far too cute. I laughed just as hard during the commentary as I did while watching the movie! And when watching the movie, I made it to 11 minutes before crying. While watching with the commentary I was crying around 10 minutes 30 seconds. LOL I'm so easy...
Today:
- I did, however, come up with a brilliant romance novel idea. Brilliant in the fact that it might actually make a good novel. Bad in the fact that it's very Mary-sue-ish. I'm going to have to explore the main character and seriously separate her from me if I want to actually try and write it. But I sketched out the whole outline (which I only ever do for my novel ideas) and it seems very exciting and do-able. It's a long shot but... oddly, I'm feeling less pessimistic than usual. Which is probably because the rejection letters haven't started rolling in yet, right? Those will get me to lose my optimism right away! :-)
- I wrote a little more of that original fic in my head today while out dog-walking. The main character is named Alex and I caved and am calling his dog Skip, after all. I just can't rename characters. Once a name sticks, it's over.
- Wrote another page or so in the RemusSnapePotion fic. It's getting close to the end. I'm excited. I'm really trying to finish it now.
- I had to reboot my computer which means closing all my documents. So I have none open at the moment and am waiting to be inspired to open them in various orders and work on them again ;-)
- I coded a couple fics for the SFArchive (and by couple, I do mean just 2)

Anyone having photic problems in particular? *asks curiously*
Best of luck with the romance writing plan. I think that you have excellent stories, and I wish you every success.

They're talking to the kid who played the young boy in the film about crying on cue- if he can do it or not. And then they start talking about tricks they use to make themselves cry. Hugh, I believe, brings up the 'using a bright light' method to make your eyes water. Then they start talking about how looking up at the sun is also useful for other things, like to make oneself sneeze or go blind. LOL It's cute and short(like 45 seconds of a conversation) but they say the word 'sneeze' enough to make me blush :-)
