You know you're a geek when...
Sep. 27th, 2012 12:54 pmYou know you're a geek when you have to use two comp days off work in order to stay at home and building something out of LEGO. I'm displaying at one of the LEGO stores near me on Saturday and had NOTHING built.
I kind of accidentally started a ficfest over at a community and I've been writing fics for it (two done so far--SPN and HP) and two more planned (Buffy). Plus I wrote three fics for the hoodie-time mini challenge. Every time I thought about doing the LEGO MOC, I got distracted with making a Eureka apron or a Supernatural Christmas tree ornament or an Edgar Allan Poe artist trading card. LOL But I finally started on Monday and realized I was NOT going to get it done by Saturday. Shit. I've been freaking out about it for months but I started to panic and decided just to take two days off and work on it nonstop.
Of course, nonstop has also meant watching my new Supernatural Season 7 DVD and catching up on Doctor Who finally. So it's been pleasant. Except I'm missing some pieces and CAN"T find them and my floor is a sea of containers I have to carefully climb over. Such a mess; it's no wonder I can't find the pieces I need. But... I really need them. Gah!
But the MOC is about 90% done. I ordered about $100 of bricks from Bricklink and I have one more order coming at me any day now (I hope it arrives before Saturday!!!!). I need to open up some sets I've bought to use the minifigs. And I'm not completely happy with it, but for something built in just a couple days, I'm proud enough of it to have it displayed in the LEGO store. I think it showcases a lot of different things, has some clever parts, and has a whole lot to look at from every angle. I built out all 5 hours with at least one exposed room in each so that you can see what's in the houses from all different directions. There will even be a couple private nods to Remus Lupin *G* And I'm going to type up an "I spy" list of things people can look for in my MOC. I think that'll be fun :-)
Tonight I'm heading to see Amy Waldman, writer of The Submission. I wasn't in love with her book, but it gives you a lot to think about and I look forward to hearing her talk about it and hearing what people might ask her about it. Tomorrow I'm going to see Neil Gaiman for the second time. I'm still in the middle of Neverwhere, but I've read plenty of other books by him :-) And I'm going with some friends, which instantly makes it more fun :-)
