I had a nice weekend, kicked off by a write-in on Friday. It was a good way to top off a week that went very badly wrong. Things are more stable around me now, which is making it easier to keep my moods from swinging too much one way or the other. So that's good news.

I really, really wanted to see the new Batman movie this weekend, because I saw the other two on opening weekends and Batman is my favorite superhero ever. However, I went to a charity screening of Can't Stop the Serenity on Saturday (had a marvelous time geeking it out and making new friends and singing along to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog in the theater--also nice to be reminded that I am NOT the only person who bounces up and down in her seat during the Bad Horse numbers). It was so delightful to be driving down the road and see so many people in brown or in cunning Jayne hats. I actually spent Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of last week re-watching the entire series and the ComicCon panel so I was properly prepared for the fun. First thing we did, after the intros, was have a moment of silence for the people in Colorado. The organizers and the spokespeople there from ThinkGeek reminded us that those people who were injured or lost their lives were not unlike us, people who love a fandom enough to want to go on opening day/weekend, and that theaters are supposed to be safe places where you can experience stories and characters and open your minds to different possibilities and worlds. And I, yeah, cried a little (silently) during the moment of silence. And, thus, decided that seeing it opening weekend was probably a bad idea for me, emotionally. I can't stand when such horrible things happen, but it's especially bad when it's part of my extended family of fanboys and fangirls. The organizers & ThinkGeek rep also encouraged us to talk to the people around us and make friends because geek community is important and, well, we need to appreciate each other and be there for each other. Also, we were encouraged to donate blood and ThinkGeek is apparently collecting donations to help the families.

So, yeah, I didn't make it to the movie. I wasn't scared to go or anything, I'm just kind of heartsick at the association and not ready yet. Maybe in a couple weeks when it's not so raw and... tainted. That's a good word.

My upcoming week is BUSY! Monday I'm going to the movie theater to see Star Trek: the next generation episodes up on the big screen. I'm super excited. They're not my favorite episodes ever, but they're okay. And it'll be fun to see them with some fellow geeks and friends from my Harry Potter meetup.

Tuesday I'm going to see Rufus Wainwright in concert! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I love that man's music and, apart from Queen, he's really the only artist whose music I am madly in love with who I haven't seen in concert. So that's going to be a lot of fun. I'm going with a different small group of friends from my Harry Potter meetup.

Wednesday I'm leading a fanfiction discussion for the Harry Potter meetup group. We've got 10 fanfics to discuss, rating from G to hardcore NC-17. I actually got super courageous and rec'ed a GlimmerGirl fic. I wasn't going to rec the nermal fic I read that made me fall in love with (sneezy) Lupin and want to read the HP series in the first place. But this is the third or fourth HP fic of hers I ever read before reading any of the books, so it's the same sort of thing, only with lots of nummy puppylove and angst instead of sniffly pups. heehee I've read all the fics for the meetup already and saved them onto my computer. Now I just want to skim through them once more and make a few notes to start discussion. We usually have one fanfic discussion every year (people rec fics and we discuss each of them in order of rating so people can duck out before it gets hot & heavy if they so desire).

Saturday is our annual Harry Potter birthday party & pick-up game of Quidditch. It's always one of our finest events of the year and we already have several dozen people RSVPing yes. I'm very excited.

Sunday we have a Harry Potter meetup discussing my favorite HP book, the Prisoner of Azkaban. Luckily, I don't have to lead that discussion. So I can just sit back and enjoy the goodness.

So, yeah. Kind of Harry Potter-heavy, this week, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! LOL And I'm getting some awesome music and some Star Trek in there too. It's going to be totally awesome!
