tarotgal: (NCIS Abbs Five)
I'm so bad lately at keeping up with this thing. I feel like there's too much catch up to do, so I might as well not even try. But I miss sharing and posting and all that. So here I am again.

This past weekend I went to ConneXions, a media con (read: slash con). It was nice seeing people I hadn't seen in a year and also nice making new friends. This is likely the last time it will be held, so the mood was a bit somber at times. But, honestly, that didn't stop us from having tons of fun sharing our ships and squees and thoughts about fandoms. I was thrilled to get to talk Highlander with a bunch of people (even if the popular concensus is that the show is worthless until Methos arrives; you'll never hear me say that, though. I will always love my moral, Scottish boyscout). I put together 7 different raffle baskets, two of which won prizes for best named and best overall (which was a tie with the one other person who brought a basket). The one that won best named? "Mostly the Comfort Part of Hurt/Comfort" heehee! I managed to binge the remaining four episodes of Good Omens Friday night and Saturday morning in time to attend the Good Omens panel Saturday. I managed to get some writing done during down times as well. And I came out of it with FAR more fandoms that I want to get into than I probably have time for in my life. But that never stopped me before.

I'm working my way through the last season of Orange is the New Black right now, but I'm hoping to jump into The Society next. There was a fantastic fanvid for that show during the vidshow on Saturday that caught my interest. The vid show was excellent; a great, diverse range of fandoms and pairings represented. I especially loved the Legolas/Gimli fanvid and the Poe/Finn one that ended the show. There was also an interesting Killgrave/Moriarty vid I think I'd like to watch again. So I'm hoping the vid list gets posted soon.

The short, fun "What if Lucas and David met Troy?" original character story I started in late June has turned out to have STOLEN MY SOUL. It's currently at 98 pages (single-spaced) with several major scenes left. Every time I think it's nearing the end, it surprises me with another twist. I keep fighting the characters on the decisions they're making. I didn't want the story to go this way or that way. But every time I fight, the characters fight back even harder. So the story is kind of absurd and indulgent but I literally can't stop writing it. LOL

This upcoming weekend I'm hosting a Harry Potter Murder Mystery for my meetup group. It will be the same story we ran last year (one we wrote ourselves) with a different group of attendees. I've got some work to do to get ready for it (inventory name badges, instructions, etc. and reprint whatever's missing; assemble goodie bags, reset props/evidence). But I'm looking forward to watching it unfold with a whole new group of "actors" trying to figure out the story.

This weekend, my sister will also be in town. So hopefully she'll have some time to spend with me. It will be good to see her again.

I'm falling behind on my 101 Things in 1001 Days list. So I need to make some time to get some of those things done, not just started.

And I'm planning in the back of my head already for National Novel Writing Month this year. I think this is the year Sweetie and Jamie will finally get married. They've been waiting for me to write that for so long! I was talking about my ideas for the wedding scene with a slasher at the con over the weekend who was planning a wedding for two Check, Please! characters, and she squeed at one of my ideas. So that was some good motivation.

It looks like somehow I'm going to have to figure out how to afford subscriptions to Hulu and Disney Plus. With Looking for Alaska coming out in October and with all the Marvel shows plus Star Wars shows (including the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series!) there's no way I can miss those. But I still have a cable subscription, which is a bit costly, and I don't know how to live without that yet. So I don't know what to do yet. I'll figure something out.

All right! Back to writing! I'm going to get this story done if it kills me!
