Me! Time for Things About Me!
Sep. 24th, 2016 11:42 pm1. Last week a friend in my Harry Potter meetup group hooked me up with passes to Mount Vernon, where she works. (I fangirled Hamilton obsessively in front of her twice, and she kept saying "You need to come to MV again!" I was glad to finally get to take her up on the generous offer). I invited my history-loving friends. They were having a festival that day as well, along with events and talks. We got tickets for the Potomac River Cruise, so I got to see parts of the river and each side of it I'd never seen before (Mount Vernon up on the hill from the river was a gorgeous sight!). We also took the mansion tour. I teared up three separate times (the key to the Bastille that Lafayette gave George Washington, the bedroom Lafayette stayed in with a giant painting of him in it, and George Washington's study where he got made the tough decisions that made America what it was). I also attended a talk by the general himself. The actor playing George Washington was awesome and made me tear up as well. I wanted to go through the museum and spend more time there... I definitely didn't fill up my fangirl meter enough. But I also wanted to get home to Charlie cat and I was hungry and tired and hot. OMG it was so hot out. But it was a fun time. It filled up a lot of my heart and I got to spend a lot of great moments with friends I love.
2. Went to the National Book Festival today. Didn't get to see one author I wanted to see, because I was worried about the room filling up for the author I REALLY wanted to see. So I picked up some swag in the exhibit hall, ate lunch, then went to the first event in the international room (which happened to be good, even if I didn't know the author they were discussing). I had an excellent seat for the author up next... Carlos Ruiz Zafon! FANGIRL SQUEEEEEEEEEEE! He was absolutely amazing. I think some videos will be available on Book View Now: http://www.pbs.org/book-view-now/live-stream/ Hey, look at that, my workplace is still mentioned on the main page as a sponsor and in the Video on Demand drop-down. That's pretty cool. It also might be here: https://www.c-span.org/series/?bookTv Anyway, I stood in line for his book signing, the first time I've ever done that at the NBF. I was in the middle of the line (which was broken up into 8 smaller lines; I was at the front of line 4). People at the beginning got as many books as they wanted signed and got their books personalized. By the time my line was up, it was down to 1 item and no personalization. Luckily, I only brought one book: The Shadow of the Wind because it's my favorite of his. He was speeding through, so I kept editing down my comment to him. By the time it was my turn, it came out to just be that his writing inspired me to be a better writer. He actually stopped signing, looked up, and paused and took the time to thank me and then tell me to keep at it, keep writing. That meant the world to me. Seriously, his writing it possibly the most beautiful writing I've ever encountered. It was so nice of him to realize this was a moment to inspire me and he took it. Seriously nice guy.
3. I miiiiight be getting a new cat tomorrow. My coworker's family rescued a kitten and can't keep it. She hasn't been able to find a home for it. So even though it's too soon in a lot of ways, sometimes cats just find you when they need you. And Charlie's been so very lonely. So I think this will be good for her too. I hope it works out, but we'll find out tomorrow. I hope he likes me! I'm so nervous.
4. I had a brain MRI last night. It was just to make sure that my insanely horrible headaches lately aren't being caused by a brain tumor. Migraines run in my family, so it's more likely that. After the headache I had last month that made me sick to my stomach, I finally went to the doctor to get these things to stop. I definitely don't want that to happen again.
5. I am going to post another post about the DC Universe. I've been marathoning a lot of those shows. Kinda in love. GIVE ME ALL THE LINKS TO ARROW SNEEZEFICS, PEOPLE! I NEEEEEEEEED! I'm currently marathoning Wolfblood right now (because it's leaving Netflix soon). I actually quite like it. It's probably my love of packs. And this is half wolf pack by blood, half wolf pack found family. That's totally my jam.
6. I need to be cleaning my house. And kitten-proofing parts of it. But my headache keeps threatening to return, so I keep taking breaks/taking it easy.
7. Next week is NOVA Pride. Looking forward to that! Hoping it won't be as wet as last year. Also hoping they'll be selling buttons again, because I lost my Ace button at Con.txt and need to buy a new one.
