The Hobbit... back again
Dec. 27th, 2012 06:15 pmI just came back from seeing The Hobbit for the third time. My dad wanted an outing with the family, so I took them to the movies (they all enjoyed the LotR movies, so it seemed like a natural thing to do, and my parents see about one movie a year in theaters LOL). I loved it just as much this time around as the second time (and I liked it better the second time than the first, though I think that might partially have to do with being fully awake the whole time the second time around). I've seen it once in 3D and twice now in regular, but not in the high frame rate. I really don't think it needs 3D at all. At least, I don't need it to be in 3D. I care about the characters (gods, I'm dying to write LotR fanfic now BTW) and the story and the beautiful landscapes and sets. The action is fine, and I like it, but I like it as part of the story, not as a standalone battle for a battle's sake. And the movies are plenty beautiful and full of great characters in the regular version :-)
Riddles in the dark remains my favorite scene, but it was fun watching different parts of the scenes this time, focusing on background characters or background set dressings, as I knew what was going to happen this time. I really didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but I did. And this time they showed the Ewan movie trailer (Jack & the Beanstalk) before the movie, so it was a pleasure seeing Ewan on screen briefly. Actually, I rather liked all the trailers they showed; I can't see that Star Trek one enough times. Three appearances if Benedict Cumberbatch, technically (two in the Hobbit and one in the Star Trek trailer). My family really liked it, even my sister's boyfriend/future husband who had only seen Fellowship.
Anyway, it was a fun afternoon. After the movie I went to Toys R Us, but they didn't have any LEGO Mirkwood elves left. They sold out of them online during their promotion seconds before I bought some Hobbit LEGO sets online. DOH! Bad timing, me.
I took Maxwell for his annual exam today. He's dehydrated and they were unable to take a urine sample, so I have to get one of those to the vet within 30 days. And he's a little overweight and has tartar problems, but nothing new or unexpected and now he's registered in the PAWS program for older pets. Also, we got an exam room that has on the wall a photo of one of our current cats, Butterscotch! Max was unimpressed, but I was happy to see him there. The other exam room has a photo of my big brother, Lik lik, the cat who used to sit on my mommy's tummy when she was pregnant with me. My vets are the best. Max doesn't care for them so much, though. LOL
Okay. Tonight I have to work on some swaps that I really need to mail out tomorrow and I've been slacking on. But I finally came up with an idea for one of the giftfics and I want to work on that before the idea leaves my head. So we'll see how things go tonight.

Ah! I forgot to put a note here. I'm sorry :-( But I do hope you like this! It's not often that I write Torchwood fic that isn't at least R, so I hope it's still enjoyable. I messed up the specifics of your request a little bit because that's where the muses took me. I do hope you like it anyway! Happy holidays!
