20th Anniversary Celebration #14

Card 2 in the TOS’s redesigned major arcana was fanfiction. Did you know I have more than 890 stories on my realm’s fanfiction page? Did you know I run a comment meme on my journal every year in April? I’m definitely a multi-fandom fangirl at heart.

DRABBLE: 1. Convalescence (Again)

Whoops! I forgot to post this last one! Sorry about that. It's the last one, but it's also the first prompt. So it comes full circle (mostly because I couldn't decide to use Sam or Dean in the first one, so I wrote it with both versions)

1. Convalescence (Again)
(Supernatural, Sam/Dean)

Sam didn’t open his eyes as Dean changed the bandages on his hands. But his nose wrinkled and breath caught, so Dean rubbed his wrist against Sam’s nose.

“Thanks,” he whispered. He opened his eyes, blinking as they adjusted to the lights in the hideous motel room, by which he could see symbols painted on the ceiling, carpet, and wallpaper. “What day is it?”

“Don’t worry about that. We’re safe here. Take all the time you need to recover.”

“I need more than time,” Sam said.

Dean answered by stretching out on the bed beside him and pulling him close.

Everything felt different since returning from Purgatory. The world felt too colorful, too complicated. Even the cold he had didn’t feel so bad. His head pounded, his throat was sore, and his nose was stuffed-up, but it was just a cold. Not nearly as bad as Sam was making it out to be.

“C’mon.”

Frowning, Sam muttered something then sneezed into his arm. He shuffled toward the Impala.

Dean took his seat behind the wheel. Same old car. Same old complaining Sammy. Same old Dean pushing them to hunt and taking care of them both. This, at least, was familiar.

7. Prayer

Dean could hear Sam down the hall, coughing. Was it just the trials or was he sick again?

His hands folded on the bed, legs bent at the knees, head hung, Dean once again pleaded for Castiel’s help. By now, he was pretty sure the angel wasn’t listening. But just in case, Dean kept asking. Talking to Cas was different from praying somehow. But he was willing to talk to anyone who could help Sam.

“heh-EHtchhhh!” Sam sneezed.

Sick again, then. Dean grabbed the spare blanket off the foot of his bed and went in search of his little brother.

I'm shooting for 25 this time. I've got all but 8 written, so I thought I'd start sharing. Also, I'm trying to switch to DW now, so I'm cross-posting differently as an experiment. Let's see how this goes!

1. Convalescence

When Dean stirred, Sam got out of the car. He opened the back door and retucked the blankets.

“Sam…” Dean’s voice was weak. He didn’t even have the energy to lift his head, but he objected to this fussing. “Y’don’t have to do this every time…”

“Yeah, I do. How are you? Can you eat?” Sam offered a granola bar.

“Dunno…” Dean closed his eyes. “So tired…”

Sam kissed Dean’s forehead. “Don’t fight it. Recovery will take a while. Rest up.” Sam got back behind the wheel and drove until the movement of the car sent Dean back to sleep.
